Ian Wright thinks Tottenham got the ‘benefit’ of a handball call during their win against Burnley on Sunday.
After Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United on Monday, Wright was talking on MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (16/05/22 at 10:50 pm) about Tottenham’s win from the weekend.
Ashley Barnes was punished for handball in the first half, with Kevin Friend overturning his call on VAR and giving Spurs a penalty.
Harry Kane, who is a genius at spot-kicks, stepped up and did his job to, in the end, score the only goal of the game against the relegation-threatened side.
Wright labelled the call to award a penalty as ‘crazy’, as he seemingly wasn’t happy with the law that is in place.
“Especially with Burnley fighting for their lives, you see Tottenham getting the benefit of that,” said Wright.
“It’s kind of scraped his arm, but as you say, it’s the law. People will say ‘well it’s handball, it’s hit his arm’. Yes, it is.
“But it’s crazy. It’s not even on target. It’s not even stopped it from going in the goal. The ball was just going up in the air.”

ANTONIO CONTE IS NOW ONE STEP AWAY FROM GUIDING TOTTENHAM TO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL
The race for Champions League football has well and truly turned on its head in north London.
Arsenal will be well and truly kicking themselves because, for a long while, it was in their hands.
But, led by Antonio Conte, Spurs haven’t stopped and they are now just one more point away from securing fourth spot.
Penalty or no penalty over the weekend, at the end of the day, over this recent period, Spurs deserve to be in their current position and there shouldn’t be any excuses from Arsenal.
