Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Arsenal’s problems are probably bigger than manager Mikel Arteta and Unai Emery is an example of that, as he told his own YouTube channel.

The former defender claimed that Emery, who was sacked by Arsenal in 2019, has been ‘successful’ in between his spell at the Emirates, including winning the Europa League with Villarreal last season.

That included knocking Arsenal out of the competition at the semi-final stage and then beating Manchester United on penalties in the final.

Ferdinand shared that the whole situation is ‘crazy’ and perhaps the structure of the North London club should be questioned ahead of the man in the dugout.

“This is more than an individual performance,” said Ferdinand. “This is almost like a culture at a football club.

“Why is Unai Emery successful prior and after his spell at Arsenal? It might not be down to the managers. It might be down to the structure of the club.

“The recruitment. The people behind the scenes. I am looking for answers. I am not saying they are the problems.

“He can’t do what he has done at Villarreal and then be a shambles at Arsenal. It’s crazy. He has won the Europa League four times.”

Even if Arteta isn’t good enough to take Arsenal forward, one thing is for sure, the biggest problem is those in the boardroom.

Arsenal won’t challenge the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool for titles again until Stan Kroenke sells up.

They have never won the Premier League title under his ownership and they probably never will.
