Tottenham Hotspur ace Brennan Johnson has opened up on David Beckham’s message to him after making his deadline day move.
David Beckham sent Brennan Johnson a message on encouragement after leaving Nottingham Forest for Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham left it late but managed to secure Johnson’s signature in a deal worth around £47.5million on deadline day.
We haven’t yet seen the best of Johnson in a Spurs shirt but there was a very encouraging sign against Crystal Palace last time out.
Johnson produced an assist for Son Heung-min in the 2-1 win at Selhurst Park, breaking into the box before cutting back for a tap-in.
Brennan Johnson shared David Beckham message
Johnson will hope to use that assist as a springboard at Tottenham and he will have the support of David Beckham throughout.
Beckham is a close family friend having come up in the Manchester United ranks alongside former Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson – Brennan’s father.
Johnson has now told The Mirror (05/11, p63) that he did receive a message from Beckham after landing his move to Spurs.
The Welsh international claims Beckham messaged him wishing him luck in North London – not far from Beckham’s old stomping ground having been raised in Chingford.
Johnson added that receiving this kind of message from Beckham is ‘crazy’ and leaves him in a state of ‘disbelief’ given his stature in the game.
“He just wished me all the best at Tottenham,” said Johnson. “Of course, coming from a player like that, it’s crazy. It’s disbelief for me. I’m not claiming to be mates with him. He is a similar age to my dad and they played together.”
“He has sent me a few other nice messages before – after going up with Forest, after signing a new contract or whatever. It’s really nice of him and definitely not something I’d take for granted,” he added.

My view: Johnson has a chance to nail down Tottenham role
Son Heung-min has moved up front this season, switching from his left-wing role to play more centrally.
Richarlison is now operating down the left but it’s fair to say that he hasn’t really made himself undroppable there.
Manor Solomon featured on the left earlier this season but he is now on the sidelines through injury.
The same goes for Ivan Perisic, who had been making an impact off the bench earlier in the campaign.
Ange Postecoglou isn’t exactly blessed with options down that side at the moment and Johnson’s return could be vital.
That means Johnson really has a chance to nail down a starting role for Tottenham, offering pace and a real goal threat down the left flank.
Johnson must stay fit and ultimately make a difference in the final third, but we are expecting to see much more of him in a Spurs shirt very soon.
