Atalanta assist-machine Robin Gosens is flattered to be linked with the likes of Leicester City, telling Sport1 that the speculation surrounding his future is nothing short of ‘crazy’.

If a global crisis of unprecedented proportions had not reared its ugly head in March, this most dynamic of 26-year-olds would probably be a Germany international right now.

Unfortunately, World Cup winning coach Joachim Low was forced to shelve his plans to hand a first ever cap to Gosens, with the spring-time international break cancelled alongside pretty much every other sporting event outside of Belarus.

But whenever Germany are back in action, expect Gosens to be in the squad.

With 10 strikes and eight assists for an Atalanta side who continue to steamroller all before them in Serie A, no ‘defender’ in Europe has created more goals in 2019/20 than Gosens – and that includes Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alphonso Davies, Jordi Alba and co.

Considering that Brendan Rodgers’s love for a swashbuckling full-back is well established, it was no surprise when Tuttomercatoweb claimed in April that the £25 million-rated Gosens has been identified as a potential replacement for Ben Chilwell at the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea, Lyon and Inter Milan have also been linked with the Champions League quarter-finalist.

“Of course I read a few things about myself,” says Gosens. “When you are linked with top international clubs, it’s crazy.

“And it still creates a bit of disbelief that you have the quality to be able to play at such clubs.”

“First and foremost, if I leave (Atalanta), it is important for me to find a sporting project that suits me.”

Gosens admits that he would love to join boyhood club Schalke one day but, for now, a move to the Premier League feels like a logical next step.

And if Leicester can recover from a worrying slump to secure their place in the Champions League for next season, the King Power club could offer exactly the kind of ‘sporting project’ that he is looking for.
