‘It’s cost you’: Club owner tells Liverpool to sell star Klopp called ‘sensational’

Liverpool have been told to part company with Joe Gomez going forward.

The England international was dropped by Jurgen Klopp for the 2-0 Champions League victory over Napoli on Tuesday night.

That came on the back of a number of suspect defensive performances from the Liverpool player who Klopp labelled ‘sensational‘ once upon a time.

And Darragh MacAnthony, a supporter of the Anfield outfit who owns Peterborough United, believes it’s time for Klopp and Fenway Sports Group to ‘move on’ from the former Charlton powerhouse.

He said on The Hard Truth podcast: “They need to move on from some players. Gomez for me, he’s not a top-class centre-half,” he claimed. “Brilliant against Man City, but mistake against Forest and mistake the other night [against Leeds]. It’s cost you in two games against two teams in the bottom three. Liverpool of old don’t lose games like that.”

The problem with this opinion is that honestly, Liverpool can’t readily axe Gomez.

It’s true that he’s probably not good enough for Klopp’s side going forward but, with Joel Matip also having a horrendous injury history, and Ibrahima Konate been injured twice this season already, the former Borussia Dortmund manager does need him.

And honestly, Gomez isn’t anywhere near as poor as he’s been looking in recent weeks.

The bottom line is that he has proven himself a top-quality centre-back and hopefully for his sake and Liverpool’s, he can recapture that form.
