Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Son Heung-min is ‘really close’ to signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Bayer Leverkusen star looks set to have his best-ever season in a Spurs shirt.
So far, the 28-year-old has scored 13 goals and set up six from 17 appearances in all competitions.
Son also scored a fine, curling goal on Sunday as Tottenham defeated North London rivals Arsenal, underlining his importance to the team.
And according to Romano, Son, who signed up for a new management agency a couple of months ago, is weeks away from penning a new deal, with the Italian journalist revealing that ‘it’s coming’.
He said on his Here We Go podcast: “There are good feelings to seeing Son extend his contract with Tottenham. It’s really close to an agreement. It’s not done yet, so we have to wait before saying ‘here we go!’ but the agreement is getting closer, probably a five or six-year deal. Everybody in this deal wants to sign the new contract. Son is so happy with Tottenham. The new contract is coming in some weeks.”
This is cracking news for fans of the North London club.
With the exception of Harry Kane, Son might be the most popular player among Tottenham supporters and what an early Christmas present it would be if an announcement were to come before December 25.
At 28, he is in the prime of his career and if the Lilywhites tie him down to a five or six-year extension, like Romano claims is the plan, then it’s an enormous boost.
