Micah Richards has slammed Tottenham Hotspur’s Serge Aurier for his lazy defending in their game against Manchester United, on Sky Sports.

Tottenham were beaten 3-1 by United yesterday, with Edinson Cavani grabbing the second goal.

Tottenham’s defending of the Uruguayan’s header was particularly poor, as Aurier never once got goal side of his man.

And Richards feels that Aurier was simply too lazy to jog to get back into the correct position.

“I want to talk about Spurs defending here. Look how many players they have here. Nobody is aggressive, nobody wants to win the ball,” Richards said.

“Someone has to get tight on Cavani. This is what happens with Spurs, they go a goal up and then they think they can defend.

“It’s cheating. It’s being quite lazy, you are gambling on the keeper getting the ball and he can roll it out to start the attack. You’re not thinking about the defensive side, you’re thinking about offensive.

“I know full-backs now are told to attack, but it’s costing his team every time he plays.

“I rate him, I think he’s a good player but it’s just that little bit of concentration. He’s a good player, it’s just that lack of concentration.”

Aurier has improved under Mourinho, but defensive lapses have just become all too familiar.

If Matt Doherty had been more impressive after signing he surely would have played more often for Tottenham.

However, the Irish international has struggled all campaign, which has meant that Mourinho hasn’t had a right-back he could fully trust.

Tottenham’s defeat to United means that they now trail the top four by six points, with only seven games left this season.
