Trevor Sinclair has backed Aston Villa’s decision to take Ross Barkley on loan after they surprisingly announced the news on Twitter yesterday.

The former QPR winger told TalkSport (30/09/20 at 10:40 am) that Barkley is ‘brave’ to make that switch but it’s a ‘superb’ acquisition for those in the West Midlands.

Usually, there is some sort of build-up to the news that a player is going to sign, such as a medial being penned in, but nothing was reported by the media – Barkley was even on Chelsea’s bench for their League Cup defeat to Tottenham the night before, so it did come out of the blue for some.

Nonetheless, Villa have done well to acquire his services for this season and Sinclair has stated that he is looking forward to the club getting back to their best.

“I think it’s superb, not just for the club, but I think it’s brave and it’s needed by Ross Barkley,” Sinclair told TalkSport.

“The players Frank Lampard has signed at Chelsea, I think the chances that he was going to get this season was very limited.

“I really look forward to him in that mix at Aston Villa, who before the last 10 years, were a very, very strong side in the Premier League and it looks like they’re looking to get back there again.”

For most parts, these past 10 years have been perhaps the worst in Villa’s history given what they have had to go through in falling down to the second-tier for the first time in nearly three decades.

But led by co-owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris, who picked the club up from on the verge of entering administration, they are backed by a boyhood fan on the touchline and a boyhood fan on the pitch.

Mixed with the experiences of John Terry and Craig Shakespeare, not forgetting Villa’s new Sporting Director Johan Lange, and the highly-rated crop of players on the pitch complementing Jack Grealish, the club is now back on its feet and ready to roar.
