Darren Bent has claimed on Sky Sports that it is ‘bizarre’ how Arsenal were able to get Thomas Partey so cheaply.
Arsenal activated Partey’s release clause yesterday, with his move from Atletico Madrid then being completed very quickly.
The Ghanian had his medical in Spain, and should link up with his new Arsenal teammates for the first time after the international break.
And Bent feels that the Gunners have got an absolute bargain.
“Finally they have got someone in there who has that Vieira type stature in the middle of the park,” Bent said.
“When you look at the players are costing more than that, and haven’t got half of what he’s got. It’s bizarre.
“But the fact that Arsenal have got him, what a signing.

“He’s big, strong, has power, he’ll sit in front of that back four and protect them.”
Partey has impressed at Atletico over the years, and the expectation is that he will walk straight into Arsenal’s midfield.
Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka have formed a strong partnership in the centre of Arsenal’s team, but they aren’t always the most reliable defensively, and Partey should help in that regard.
It is a long time since Arsenal had a truly exceptional defensive midfielder, and Partey’s arrival has caused great excitement at the Emirates Stadium.
