Eddie Howe has told Jim White that there was ‘no truth’ in the rumours that Newcastle United wanted to sign Manchester United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, as he told talkSPORT.

The Newcastle boss was asked by talkSPORT host, Jim White, whether he was ‘happy’ with his goalkeepers after ‘talk’ of Henderson joining their party during the January transfer window.

Despite the Magpies being the biggest spenders from any Premier League side, Howe made it clear that Man United’s backup stopper wasn’t one of the players they wanted.

Throughout the season, the Toon Army faithful have had to watch error-prone performance after error-prone performance from their side.

Whether it’s Martin Dubravka or Karl Darlow, they have both had their fair share of problems in between the sticks, but despite the ‘crazy’ nature of what Howe has had to deal with, a new goalkeeper seemingly wasn’t on his mind.

“There was talk of another goalkeeper coming in,” said White. “The goalkeeper being Dean Henderson. Are you happy with the ones you got?”

Howe responded: “There was no truth in any of those rumours, Jim. I have had to deal with all sorts of rumours during January, as you could imagine.

“It has been crazy. I have said all along, I don’t want my players to read the speculation, and if they can, stay away from it.

“I am delighted with the business that we have done and I think the squad is in a stronger place.”

Clean sheets have been hard to come by for the Magpies this season, with only two to their name.

Given that Howe isn’t known for his defensive work, it’s a part of Newcastle’s game that has to change if they are to stay up this season.

The more teams they are in a relegation dogfight with, the better for their chances of remaining in England’s top-flight beyond the summer.

That can start with Howe and his players beating Everton this evening, with Frank Lampard set to take charge of his first Premier League game as a Toffee.
