Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Liverpool forward Divock Origi and his ability to make an impact off the bench.

Origi has an uncanny knack of coming off the bench and scoring dramatic late goals, and Ferdinand has been full of praise for the Belgian.

Ferdinand says that being able to come off the bench is an art that even some of the greatest players can’t master, stating that he himself struggled when coming on as a sub.

What’s Ferdinand said about Origi?

Ferdinand spoke about Origi’s impact against Wolves.

“Origi, he just wants controversial, big game goals where he changes the rhythm of a football match. I don’t know many players who play as sporadically as him that are cult figures. Who does that? Who has been this guy? He is going to be a cult figure for years and he probably plays one game in 10, it’s unbelievable,” Ferdinand said.

“I thought he had gone, but you have to respect the talent. It’s an art to be able to do what he does to come into games gold and get into the pace of games. Chicharito as unbelievable at that. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unreal at that. There’s a concentration level and an intelligence level that you need to do that. There’s a lot of great players that couldn’t come on as a sub, I was one of them. I couldn’t come on as a sub, I was a liability.”

Need a player like that

Ferdinand says that it’s an art to be able to make an impact off the bench, and you always need to have a player like that in your squad.

As great as Liverpool are, they can find themselves in a bind every now and then, and who is always there to bail them out? Divock Origi.

The Belgian isn’t the Reds’ best player, but he’s undoubtedly been one of their most important of the modern era.
