Speaking on ITV’s coverage of Netherlands vs Senegal (ITV1, 21/11/22 5PM), Ally McCoist and Jon Champion have been discussing Vincent Janssen.
The one-time Tottenham striker has been leading the line for the Netherlands at the World Cup, and interestingly, he’s not been doing an awful job.
Janssen, of course, was one of the Premier League’s most high-profile flops during his time at Spurs, but now, he seems to be back on track.
McCoist and Champion noted that the attacker looks like a different player from his spell at Tottenham, with McCoist stating that his transformation has been ‘amazing’.

Janssen a different player
The ITV pair discussed Janssen during commentary.
“He’s looked a different player to the one who struggled so much to make an impact at Spurs hasn’t he Ally?” Champion asked.
“Absolutely. It’s amazing because quite frankly he was poor at Spurs wasn’t he, he was poor at Spurs, but again, I’m not sure he’s the answer, I’m not sure if the Dutch get to the latter stages of this toruanemnt he’s the person who will get the winning goal in the semi-final or the final,” McCoist said.
Back in his groove
Janssen looked a lot better than he did for Spurs during his World Cup debut on Monday, and, to be honest, he’s been performing at a good level for quite some time now.
He has nine goals in 17 league games over in Belgium this season, and he seems to have rediscovered the confidence that utterly deserted him during his time in north London.
The reality is that Janssen has never been a poor footballer, he was just the wrong man at the wrong time for Tottenham.
