Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports that he believes West Ham United, Everton, Wolves and Southampton are all in a mini-league.

West Ham United, Everton, Wolves and Southampton have all performed well over the early part of the season and sit in the top-half as things stand.

The four sides will all surely be hoping to push into the top six after their start to the campaign.

And Carragher thinks that a mini-league is starting to form in the Premier League now.

“It was interesting looking at the table there, the only team you’d expect to be in there who isn’t is Arsenal,” Carragher said.

“You look at West Ham, Everton, Wolves and Southampton – they are the teams who you think can they break into the top six, can they push into the European places?

“I think if Southampton can finish ahead of West Ham, Everton and Wolves [they’ll have done well].

“It’s almost like a mini league. There’s teams there that are very similar and are there or thereabouts and have ambitions of getting European football. If they could finish above those sides it gives them a great chance of getting Europe.”

Southampton did move back ahead of West Ham, Everton and Wolves last night with a 2-1 win over Brighton.

The Saints had slipped behind against Brighton, but came back thanks to goals from Jan Vestergaard and Danny Ings.

Things can change quickly this season though, with the Premier League table very tightly packed.

Everton will testify for that, as they led the table in the early part of the season, but a recent run of poor results has seen them fall down to ninth place.
