West Ham United are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table.
Dwight Yorke has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 5th December, that he is not surprised by West Ham United’s struggles this season.
West Ham finished in seventh place in the Premier League last term, and the expectation was that Slaven Bilic’s side would push on from there this time around.
However, West Ham have been abject so far this campaign, and they lost 5-1 against Arsenal in their most recent outing.
The Hammers are now just one point above the drop zone, and Yorke has criticised the mentality of the players currently in Bilic’s squad.
“To me, it’s not weird at all,” Yorke said. “When you play at these lesser clubs – and when I say lesser clubs I mean West Ham, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough – when they have a season when they are successful, it’s rare that they are better the next year.
“My experience of playing, away from Manchester United… these guys come back with the same mentality, but can’t do it. That’s why some of these players don’t play at the top, their mentality is all wrong.”
West Ham’s latest defeat against Arsenal was particularly humiliating as they never got close to Arsene Wenger’s side.
The Gunners were allowed to cruise to victory, with an Alexis Sanchez hat-trick and goals from Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain putting West Ham to the sword.
The Hammers are now in 17th place in the Premier League table, and the pressure is mounting on Bilic.
West Ham are next in action at the weekend, when they take on high flying Liverpool at Anfield.
