Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been speaking about Yves Bissouma and what he’s heard about the Malian.

Bissouma hasn’t had the easiest of starts to life at Tottenham. He’s spent most of his time at the club sitting on the bench, while his manager has been very clear about the fact he’s not adapting to the demands of playing for his team.

Gold has found these comments quite strange, stating that he’s heard from people who know Bissouma well that his fitness and defensive ability are two of his strongest attributes, and yet, they are the two things Conte has been critical of thus far.

Bissouma’s criticisms

Gold shared what he’s heard about Bissouma and why these criticisms don’t add up.

“I was told by people around who followed him all the time was that he was one of the fittest players in the Brighton team. Fitness shouldn’t have been an issue. Conte is another level as everyone says, but still he should have had that base layer, people would also say that the defensive side of his game was the strongest point, and now Conte is saying it’s not good enough. It’s all very strange, I can only presume in training that he’s not showing enough,” Gold said.

Welcome to the big leagues

With all due respect to Brighton, being one of the fittest players at the Amex is a completely different task to being one of the fittest players at Tottenham.

There’s a reason Spurs have been Champions League contenders for years and Brighton have been involved in multiple relegation battles, there is a clear gap between these two sides, and Bissouma is clearly struggling to bridge that gap.

We’ve seen on plenty of occasions how a player can struggle when making the next step up in their careers and it looks like Bissouma is sadly falling into this trap.
