Speaking on the All to Play for Podcast, Joe Cole has said he can’t believe what he’s been hearing some people say about Liverpool this season.

Indeed, Cole doesn’t seem to agree with some of the criticism Jurgen Klopp and his team have been getting this season, and we can understand why.

Cole seems to have had a big problem with the notion that Liverpool aren’t a great side because of their poor run after winning the league last season, but the ex-Reds midfielder believes that simply isn’t true.

“City will win the league, but I feel bad for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and the Liverpool players,” Cole said.

“They’ve been getting a lot of stick lately haven’t they? Because of where they are and from pundits and from fans. Listen, it’s tough to win the league again, they’ve had an injury crisis, Jurgen Klopp, you know, it’s absurd some of the criticism this team is getting.

“People are saying they’re not a great side because they’re falling away. They are a great side, they’re just having a bad run and they’ll be back next year and they’ll be competing again because Jurgen Klopp is a top manager, they’ve got top players and it’s a top club, so they’re just having a bad moment.”

Anyone with an understanding of football can see that Cole is speaking sense here.

Yes, Liverpool aren’t looking as good as they did last season, but it’s really easy to see why. After all, they’re missing three of their most important players due to injury, and they’re out for the rest of the season.

At the end of the day, this is still the same group of players who walked the league last term and won the Champions League the year before, so the idea that they’re not a great side is simply ridiculous.
