Pat Nevin has said on BBC Radio 5 Live Extra that he was shocked that Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus could not score against Leeds United at Elland Road with a great chance in the first half of the Premier League match.

The former Chelsea winger believes that Arsenal striker Jesus should have scored against Leeds midway through the first half.

Arsenal and Brazil forward Gabriel Martinelli sent the ball into the middle.

Granit Xhaka left the ball, and although Martin Odegaard could not get his feet in place, the Norway international playmaker backheeled it to Jesus

You would have expected the Brazil international striker to score from about two yards out, but the former Manchester City striker chipped it just over the bar.

And it left former Chelsea star and BBC Sport pundit Nevin shocked.

Pat Nevin on Gabriel Jesus miss for Arsenal v Leeds United

Nevin said: “Jesus just dinks it, we know what he wants to do. The keeper goes down and it’s a shock that Jesus’s shot floats over the bar instead of going in.”

Gabriel Jesus is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and has been superb for Arsenal since his £45 million (Sky Sports) transfer from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

It was a surprise that the striker could not score from the chance that he had in the first half against Leeds, but it happens with all players all the time.

There is nothing to worry about.
