Eurosport reported in April that Tottenham Hotspur could still sign Danny Ings.
The Southampton hitman was sidelined with a hamstring injury at the time but going by his performance last night, this is a player Spurs will definitely want to keep an eye on.
Ings returned from injury and scored twice in the Saints’ 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at St Mary’s.
In doing so, the former Liverpool marksman took his tally for the season to 12 from 25 games in the Premier League.
It’s a very decent return for the striker who cost his club £20 million in 2019 [BBC Sport].
And Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted that ‘it’s a pity’ that his side – who are 14th in the Premier League table – were without the star for so long.
He told Sky Sports after the game: “He’s an important player for us and we need all players fit on the pitch. We know. It’s a pity.”
Do Tottenham need this transfer?
In a word, yes.
Carlos Vinicius looks set to return to Portugal following what’s been a pretty poor season-long loan in North London.
And even if Harry Kane stays, Tottenham still absolutely need a better quality back-up striker.
Problem is, Ings, who left Liverpool for the purpose of regular football, may not be receptive to playing second fiddle to Kane and therefore even if Spurs do want him, there’s no guarantee that the former Burnley star will agree to it.
