Everton-owned Henry Onyekuru has impressed on loan at Anderlecht.
Everton talent Henry Onyekuru has told AOI Football that he is flattered by alleged interest from Barcelona and Manchester United.
Nigerian forward Onyekuru, 20, hit the headlines last season with 24 goals for Belgian outfit KAS Eupen, and his goalscoring exploits earned him a big move to Everton over the summer – but they had to loan him straight out for work permit reasons.
Onyekuru went back to Belgium with Anderlecht, and has excelled this season with nine goals in 24 appearances in all competitions, as he continues to develop.
Everton would no doubt love to have Onyekuru at their disposal right now given their lack of pace, but the forward – who can play out wide or up front – won’t be back at Goodison Park until the end of the season.
When Onyekuru does head to Merseyside, he may find some extra interest in his services, as Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws recently reported that Barcelona and Manchester United are both keen to sign him.
Ahead of Anderlecht’s Champions League clash against Celtic tonight, Onyekuru spoke AOI Football about the speculation, noting that it is a ‘blessing’ to be attracting interest from such huge clubs.
Onyekuru added that the speculation is ‘flattering’, but he is focused on the coming months with Anderlecht before finally being in line to make his debut for Everton.
“There is no real secret, I have a strong faith in God and he has blessed me to be able to do what I love and I’m just focused on improving myself, working hard and staying dedicated,” said Onyekuru.
“It’s a blessing to be recognized by these clubs and of course, it’s flattering but I take everything one step at a time; focus on what’s in front of me and for the next few months – that is Anderlecht,” he added.
