Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been speaking about Newcastle and the lack of hope amongst their fanbase.

It’s no secret that the Toon Army aren’t best pleased with their club’s current situation. There’s a huge disdain for the ownership and the management, and there isn’t much optimism.

Carragher compared them to a club like Leeds United, claiming that there are differing mentalities amongst the fanbases, labelling Newcastle’s situation as a ‘disgrace’.

What’s been said?

Carragher gave his view on Newcastle by comparing them to Leeds.

“It’s a bit of a disgrace really with Newcastle, and I don’t think there’s too much difference between a Leeds and a Newcastle. You’re both realistic where it’s just a dream one day to win the league, but you don’t really expect it. I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong, but what I’m saying is, every fan has hope, but not every fan has real belief. You get this buzz like ‘could we nick the FA Cup?’ ‘Could Rafa do this?’ ‘Could Bielsa do that?’ With Newcastle there’s none of that, and that’s the biggest thing you need as a football fan, to have hope,” Carragher said.

Sad reality

It’s sad to say it, but what Carragher is saying is true.

So many clubs come into the new season with optimism, just look at Brentford’s win against Arsenal on Friday evening, the Bees came into this season knowing they had a mountain to climb, but now their fanbase are daring to dream.

However, at Newcastle there’s none of that. Regardless of the odd good result on the pitch, fans are desperate for a change at the club, and that feeling won’t fade quickly.
