It looks like Mateo Guendouzi might be thrown a lifeline with regards to his Arsenal career.

The 20-year-old midfielder hasn’t kicked a ball for the Gunners since a 2-1 defeat by Brighton on June 20.

Guendouzi avoided a retrospective ban for grabbing Neal Maupay by the throat during that game but it was the last Arsenal fans saw of him nonetheless.

The Daily Mail reported later that head coach Mikel Arteta exiled him from first-team training following a bust-up between the two – their second of the calendar year – and there was then speculation about him leaving North London amid talk of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain being interested in the youngster.

Arsenal kick off their season with a trip to Fulham on Saturday and the former Lorient player – a £7 million signing two years ago – was spotted training with his team-mates at London Colney on Wednesday ahead of the Premier League return.

Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to Guendouzi’s return to training on Twitter:

If Guendouzi gets another shot, he can’t afford to blow it.

Arsenal have re-signed Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, and even Mo Elneny might be back in the picture after his surprise start in the Community Shield win over Liverpool last month.

The point is, Arteta has plenty of midfield options – and possibly even more by deadline day next month – and the young Frenchman simply has to fall into line.
