Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport during their live coverage of Tottenham’s FA Cup defeat to Everton on Wednesday night that he is fearing for Dele Alli and Harry Winks’ future at the club.
The Tottenham duo didn’t start the nine-goal thriller, as Jose Mourinho opted to go for his tried and trusted in the middle of the park – Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
In January, it was well-documented that the duo could have left North London, especially Alli, who has found life and game time hard to come by under Mourinho.
Nonetheless, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is certainly fearing for their future and stated that everything will come out eventually.
On fearing for Alli and Winks’ future at the club: “I do, yes,” said Ferdinand. “Sometimes the situation that happens. Has it gone too far?
“I think Alli has shown huge class at times and goalscoring ability. And, at the moment, he’s not getting the opportunity (to start).
“Again, it will come out in the wash as to ‘why?’ From the manager and the player. But we have to wait, I am sure. The same with Harry Winks.”
Alli couldn’t make the impact he would have liked in the final third yesterday, as Mourinho brought him on with 13 minutes left of normal time.
As for Winks, it was a game to forget for the Spurs academy product after he was brought on moments before extra-time.
It was the Englishman’s woeful first touch from inside his own defensive third, which then allowed Everton to pounce on his mistake and eventually score what was the winning goal through Bernard.
