Italian website claims Tottenham have Allegri lined up as potential Pochettino replacement, could have to fight Arsenal

There are allegedly concerns that Pochettino could leave Spurs in the summer.

For Tottenham Hotspur fans, life without Mauricio Pochettino is almost unthinkable, but the club could still be laying plans for the Argentine manager’s departure, if a report from calciomercato is to be believed.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have made great strides in the last couple of years and now stand as legitimate title challengers in the eyes of most.

However, the 44-year-old’s success has not gone unnoticed, and there is always the nagging concern that the 44-year-old may be headhunted by a top European club.

According to calciomercato, Barcelona have their eyes on Pochettino as a potential replacement for current head coach Luis Enrique, whose contract at the Nou Camp expires after this season.

The Italian report does, however, suggest that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is laying plans for the eventuality of Pochettino’s departure and has earmarked experienced Italian boss Allegri as a primary target.

Allegri has managed exclusively in his home country of Italy so far throughout his 14-year managerial career.

After managing AC Milan for four years from 2010 to 2014, guiding them to their first Serie A title in six years in his first season, he then joined Juventus, leading the Old Lady to back-to-back domestic league and cup doubles, as well as the 2015 Champions League final.

Even with such a talented squad as Juve’s, that is no mean feat, but Allegri is nevertheless coming under pressure from some corners in Italy, sparking rumours that he could leave the club a year early this summer.

The report claims that Levy is considering making a move for the 49-year-old if Pochettino does leave.

That could allegedly spark something of a battle in North London, with Arsenal also said to be chasing Allegri if they decide to finally replace Arsene Wenger this year.

Pochettino leaving is not a situation Spurs fans will want to think about just yet, but it is perhaps not surprising that Levy is reportedly beginning to make plans for just that.
