The Italian is set to leave Watford role this week.
Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino
Reports in Italy are suggesting that Nicola Salerno could return to Leeds United as sporting director this summer – with an exit from his role at Watford expected to be confirmed today.
The report from AlfredoPedulla.com states that Salerno is set to terminate his contract at Watford, which was set to run until 2017, in the coming hours.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino
The same report states that contact has already been made with Leeds United and Massimo Cellino regarding a potential return to the club.
This is also the news being reported by TuttoMercatoWeb today, as it appears Salerno could return to Elland Road this summer.

Leeds are still looking to add to their recruitment team this summer but Salerno would be a controversial re-appointment.
Well known to Cellino, with whom he worked extensively with Cagliari in Italy, he made the headlines for the suspension of Neil Redfearn’s assistant Steve Thompson during his time at Elland Road – and for some rather questionable player additions.
When he left the club he had this to say about Cellino to Sky Sports, which suggests no hard feelings between the pair:
“Cellino told me he would prefer to have another sporting director – an English one, not Italian,” he said.
“I enjoy working with Massimo, he is the typical Italian president. I know him very well, we worked together at Cagliari for seven years.

He does however have plenty of experience and did bring in some talented players to the Leeds fold.
If he does return it will certainly be interesting to see what the reaction is from Leeds fans, and whether he can be a hit in Yorkshire a second time round.
