According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the agent of Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina is heading to Italy in order to hold talks about the Spaniard’s future with the club.

Reina, 34, first joined Napoli on loan in 2013, and after one season with Bayern Munich, he headed back to Naples in 2015 on a permanent basis.

The former Liverpool hero has made nearly 100 appearances in his second spell at the Stadio San Paolo, but recent speculation has suggested that a move away could be on the cards.

Not only did The Sun claim that Napoli are open to selling Reina this summer, but The Northern Echo also reported earlier this week that Newcastle want to sign Reina in a £4million deal.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez doesn’t seem entirely convinced by Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow or Matz Sels, and a move for Reina makes perfect sense given that he signed him for both Liverpool and Napoli.

Now, in a story that may well interest Newcastle, Sky Italia Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Reina’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon is heading to Italy in order to hold talks with Napoli about Reina’s future with the club.

Reina’s contract with Napoli ends in 2018, meaning that Quilon wants to find out whether Napoli intend to extend his contract – and if they don’t, Reina could pursue other options this summer.

With Newcastle seemingly the logical landing spot for Reina, Il Mattino reported earlier this week that Napoli are keen on Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny, which could free Reina up for a move to St. James’ Park.
