Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Fiorentina ace Matias Vecino.

According to Italian newspaper La Nazione, Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino has a €24million (£21million) release clause in his contract that will expire on August 10th, giving Spurs six weeks to potentially activate such a deal.

Vecino, 25, joined Fiorentina from Nacional back in his native Uruguay back in 2013, and after loan spells with Italian rivals Cagliari and Empoli, he has become a key player in Florence.

Last term, Vecino notched four goals and five assists in all competitions for Fiorentina, making 40 appearances over the course of the season as he featured alongside Milan Badelj in the heart of midfield.

Vecino appears to have attracted interest off the back of his displays last season, with Tutto Mercato Web reporting just days ago that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to land him this summer.

With contact allegedly made with Vecino’s agent, Spurs appear to be plotting a move for the Uruguayan international, who has 13 caps to his name – and it seems that the midfielder has a release clause in his contract.

Italian newspaper La Nazione report that Vecino’s contract contains a €24million (£21million) release clause, which will expire on August 10th – giving Spurs, or any other interested clubs, six weeks to activate that deal without Fiorentina being able to stop them.

Whilst Tottenham do need a midfielder, given that Harry Winks is injured and Eric Dier has dropped into defence to play in Mauricio Pochettino’s three-man back line, it would be a surprise to see them activate Vecino’s release clause.

Chairman Daniel Levy would almost certainly want to negotiate a cheaper price right now, especially for a player with no Premier League experience – but if the release clause is true, it at least gives Tottenham a price ceiling on Vecino for the next six weeks.
