Tottenham fans, make of this what you will…
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
It says a lot about Mauricio Pochettino’s managerial accomplishments at Tottenham that he is coming up as a popular name regarding the upcoming Barcelona vacancy.
Luis Enrique last night announced his decision to stand down at the end of the season, and bookies SkyBet have Pochettino as joint fourth favourite at 8/1.
This is despite the Argentine formerly bossing Barcelona’s rivals Espanyol, and signing a long term contract with Spurs last summer.
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan yesterday said on Twitter that if he were a Tottenham fan, he would be concerned.
The rumour mill has gone into overdrive, and one such example is a report published Thursday evening by Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb.
It claims Pochettino is indeed a target for Barcelona, and Tottenham are already in the process of finding a replacement.
Their four top candidates are, you guessed it, all Italian managers.
Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, ex-Roma manager Luciano Spalletti, and Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri.
All talented managers who have delivered trophies at domestic levels, but if they can hold onto him, Tottenham would be far better keeping their continuity and doing their utmost to persuade Pochettino to snub Barcelona’s advances and stay put.
