Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web have criticised Son Heung-min for his display in Tottenham Hotspur’s 0-0 draw with Milan which saw them knocked out of the Champions League – saying he did not live up to his calibre, rated 5/10.
Son, 30, was included in the starting line-up against Milan despite his poor form this season. The South Korea skipper had been benched against Chelsea and West Ham, both of which Spurs won. But he returned in Spurs’ previous two.
Both of which, Spurs lost 1-0 – to Sheffield United and Wolves. He lasted the entire 0-0 draw with Milan but it was easy to forget that Son was on the pitch. His most-telling contribution – his free-kick almost headed in by Harry Kane.
But for Son, and Spurs, it was another frustrating night in which both failed to live up to expectation. Italian media site TMW gave their verdict on Son’s display in a player ratings piece – handing him 5/10, saying he floated in and out.
TMW reported on Wednesday: “Son 5 – Impalpable. One, maximum two changes of pace that may not be enough for a player of his calibre. He floated throughout, never ending up being dangerous for the Rossoneri rearguard.”

Son is a world-class player. A forward that even this season, has shown why he is one of the best left-sided attackers in the world. His hat-trick against Leicester, braces against Preston and Frankfurt. A huge player for Tottenham.
But when Son struggles, it is clear that Spurs struggle. Even the best players sometimes need a spell on the sidelines to collect themselves. Two games being benched is not enough. He might just need a few weeks out of the firing line.
