Everton fans got what they wanted when Sam Allardyce was sacked this week to make way for a fresh appointment this summer.
Everton supporters were demanding change this summer after a topsy turvy season under Ronald Koeman and then Allardyce and they got it on Wednesday.
The former England boss did the job of lifting the Toffees out of the relegation zone and into eighth.
But supporters quickly grew fed up of the style of football on display at Goodison Park and Allardyce was under intense pressure to keep his job, particularly after the now infamous supporter survey faux pas.
With Big Sam gone Everton are being linked with a host of names to replace him at Goodison Park.
But the favourite is former Watford and Hull City manager Marco Silva, as reported by the likes of The Guardian.
Silva was linked with the Toffees when Koeman was sacked but they were forced to look elsewhere when their pursuit of the then Watford boss prompted a complaint to the authorities.
Silva has been out of work since and looks set to finally take over at Goodison Park.
However, Everton legend Tony Cottee – who scored 72 goals in 184 games on Merseyside – told Sky Sports News’ Premier League Daily that Silva is the wrong choice.
“You’d like to think they’ve been thinking about who to appoint,” Cottee told Sky Sports.
“Marco Silva was someone they tried to get from Watford about six months ago and it certainly disturbed him in terms of what he was doing in his job at Watford.
“I’m not so sure whether he’s the right man to take the club forward. Everyone said he did a good job at Hull but ultimately they did get relegated and then after a pretty good start at Watford he then got the sack, albeit down to Everton’s interest.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns up but I’m not quite sure he’s the right man for the club.”
