Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to David Ornstein’s update on Joe Willock following his successful loan spell at Newcastle, as he spoke to the Ornstein and Chapman Podcast.
Scoring in seven Premier League games on the bounce – matching Alan Shearer’s record – would catch the eye of anybody, no matter your standing, and for Arsenal’s academy product, his stock has gone through the roof.
On one hand, Arsenal have a goalscoring midfielder they can throw straight into their team – and they are seriously craving one.
On the other, Newcastle would be pretty keen to bring him back to St James’ Park, and when it comes to a potential transfer fee, there’s no better moment for his price to be inflated given what he has achieved.
Ornstein claimed that an ‘absolutely fascinating dilemma’ awaits Arsenal and there’s ‘no chance’ Arsenal would even consider selling their 21-year-old Hale End product for ‘£10 or 15 million’.
Arsenal fans are making it clear that if he is sold then those in the North London boardroom have to consider only serious offers of £30 million+.
But then again, the Arsenal faithful would like to see the penalty-box-poacher to be donning their colours next season because players of his quality are needed.
Either way, Arsenal have a big decision to make once the transfer window re-opens and it will be interesting to see their reaction if a big offer comes in for him.
In truth, Arsenal should keep hold of him because they need a player of his type and his recent performances for Newcastle may have just saved them millions.
