Jesse Marsch has revealed to BBC Sport that it would be ‘an honour’ to be even considered by Celtic as they continue to hunt a replacement for Neil Lennon.

Lennon quit his role as Hoops’ manager a couple of weeks ago and with Rangers winning the Premiership title for the first time since 2011, spoiling Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid, those at Parkhead have a huge rebuilding job to oversee during the summer.

The first item on the agenda is to hire a long-term replacement for the Irishman, whose assistant John Kennedy has got the job on an interim basis.

Quite a few names have been linked already and Roy Keane is reported to want the job [The Scottish Sun], following speculation that he is under consideration.

But Marsch might have just thrown his hat into the ring.

The 47-year-old American led Red Bull Salzburg to a league and cup double in Austria’s top flight last term.

Here’s what Marsch said to BBC Sport when quizzed about the Celtic job: “I know enough about it to say of course it’s interesting. It’s an amazing club and it would be an honour to even be considered. But I also have a job to do here. My way of working is really to focus in on the job that I’m doing and concentrate on the moment. And the more that I do that the more other possibilities can arise.”

By virtue of the fact that Celtic are 20 points behind Steven Gerrard’s side, before Sunday’s Old Firm at Parkhead, it’s clear that whoever gets the job has a big task on his hands.

And although Marsch – who also worked as an assistant at Red Bull Leipzig – is certainly proven in Austria, taking charge of an Old Firm side is a different level of pressure and media scrutiny entirely.
