Jose Enrique has stated on Instagram that it would be ‘amazing’ if Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott earned a late call to England’s World Cup squad amid doubts about an injury to James Maddison.
The Leicester City playmaker, who has scored seven Premier League goals this season and made a late surge into Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad, has sat out training in Qatar in recent days.
Prior to heading out to the Middle East, Maddison was substituted during Leicester’s 2-0 win at West Ham with a knee injury and that minor issue has followed him to the World Cup.

It would be a crying shame for the player if he had to miss out because very few England players are in-form and he is the one right in the middle of a purple patch.
Either way, if he has to miss out for, one reason or another, then it could see a door open for somebody else with talk of Elliott possibly getting a nod, as Enrique shared his thoughts on that possibly happening.
“If it happens, it will be amazing for him,” said Enrique. “(It would be) very well deserved, in my opinion.”
ELLIOTT IN ENGLAND’S THOUGHTS
Well, whatever happens, one thing is for sure, it seems as though a maiden England call for Elliott is only around the corner.
On the domestic stage, the 19-year-old has been thrown into the deep end by Jurgen Klopp, time and time again, and he has proven his worth.
The next major tournament will be Euro 2024 in Germany and it has to be a competition Elliott has to target because he is more than capable of being part of the England squads that will be put together for the next two years.
