The Tottenham Hotspur star is no longer considered to be the first choice left-back under Mauricio Pochettino.
Paul Merson spoke to Sky Sports about Tottenham’s hopes of winning silverware anytime soon, and highlighted how they must keep their best players, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of achieving success.
One player in particular who faces an uncertain future with Spurs is Danny Rose, with Mauricio Pochettino seeming to favour Ben Davies in the left-back role.
Rose, 28, is still under contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2021, however, so the north London outfit still hold all of the cards.
The England international has made his feelings very clear on Spurs’ lack of ambition in the transfer market over the past few years, and that has not gone down well with the club’s hierarchy.
He is still a top class left-back, however, so Tottenham will surely want to keep hold of him.
Merson told Sky Sports how it would be a loss for the north London outfit, if Rose ends up leaving:
“Danny Rose has not signed a contract, it would be a loss if he goes.”
It seems unlikely that the 28-year-old will leave this month, but if Tottenham receive a big offer for his services in the summer, then Pochettino might just be tempted into selling the Englishman.
Both Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in signing Rose, according to the Guardian, but whether Spurs would be willing to sell to a direct Premier League rival is very doubtful.
The ideal scenario for Tottenham would be for him to stay in north London, and rediscover his best form, but Poch won’t be fully confident of that happening until the January window slams shut.
