After narrowly avoiding relegation last season Nottingham Forest will hope to keep hold of their star players this summer.

Despite being hit by a points deduction, Nuno Espirito Santo guided Nottingham Forest to a 17th-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

With the summer transfer window now open, Forest have been busy as usual trying to strengthen their squad.

The headline signing so far has been the £35million arrival of Elliot Anderson from Newcastle United, while Forest also raised £27million by selling Moussa Niakhate to Lyon.

Forest quickly replaced Niakhate with the signing of Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, and they won’t want to lose another defender this summer.

All eyes have been on Murillo after his superb season with Forest last season, he recently addressed £70million transfer rumours and admitted he planned to join a “big club” after spending a year at Forest.

Murillo opens up on Nottingham Forest future

After being so open and honest about wanting to use Forest as a stepping stone to a bigger club, Forest fans are understandably worried about losing the 22-year-old Brazilian this summer.

Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Murillo, but Forest are holding out for a fee similar to Everton’s valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Toffees are staying firm on their £70million valuation of Branthwaite after receiving two bids from Manchester United.

Murillo has now opened up on his future at the City Ground, and it will put a smile on the faces of Forest fans.

Speaking exclusively to The Telegraph, Murillo said “I need regular game-time and really feel that with Forest I’m in the best place for my career.

“Staying here for another season will enable me to mature as a player and eventually become better prepared if the chance ever comes to play at another level one day.

However, he did hint at wanting to move to a Champions League club soon – “Of course I want to eventually play in the Champions League. When I was growing up I’d play video games and play with all those teams.

“Whenever I hear that classic music before the games it moves me, and it would be a dream to play in that competition.”
