Even for £60m, surely Tottenham cannot consider selling Hugo Lloris this late?

Huge Lloris is emerging as a late transfer target for Real Madrid, but Tottenham Hotspur should not be tempted into a sale this late in the day.

As reported by the Sun, La Liga giants Real Madrid are preparing £60 million offer to put to Tottenham Hotspur for their World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The 31-year-old has been in north London since moving from Lyon in 2012, and has made over 200 Premier League appearances for the club, establishing himself as one of the division’s best in his position in the process.

Lloris has four years left on his current Tottenham contract, meaning it would take a huge offer to prise him away, especially after a relatively good showing at the World Cup – barring the actual final, of course.

According to the Sun, Real Madrid are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve since they want an upgrade on Keylor Navas, but Spurs would be fools to enter negotiations this late in the day.

There are only a couple of weeks left of the summer transfer window and, although £60 million for a 31-year-old goalkeeper is a tasty prospect, it would only cause disruption ahead of what could already be a chaotic opening few weeks.

Tottenham have not been looking at goalkeepers this summer and have had no reason to. Therefore they surely will not be in the best position to replace Lloris if they were to sell him.

Spurs would be heaping pressure on themselves if they sold, so it would be best for them not to get enticed in by Real’s supposed interest, and perhaps revisit the situation in January. It could be wise for the club to begin a more extensive search now, just in case los Blancos do come calling.
