Newcastle United star Callum Wilson has tipped his former Bournemouth teammate Ryan Fraser to kick on after getting a vital assist against Everton, speaking to The Mirror.
The Magpies weren’t fancied as they faced off against the high-flying Toffees on Sunday but a brace from Wilson secured the Tyneside outfit their third league win of the season.
The England international has enjoyed a good start to life at St James’ Park, netting six goals in his first seven Premier League outings. His form has earned him plaudits from a number of pundits. However, his former Cherries teammate Fraser has had something of a slower start.
Before Saturday, the Scot had just one assist to his name this term. However, he doubled his tally against Carlo Ancelotti’s former table-toppers.
Wilson said the assist would boost Fraser’s confidence.
“I am delighted for him. He has joined and is still getting himself up to speed. It will do him the world of good. He will take confidence from that assist,” Wilson told the Mirror.
“He has had to adapt (to) playing here, playing in numerous positions, which is sometimes difficult. Ryan is a good character, a good player and has played in most positions.
“He is good on his left foot, gets the ball into the right area and, as a striker, you make sure you’re in the right area.”
We all know how good Fraser can be on his day. He was the Premier League’s second-most prolific assister in the 2018/19 season and it was usually Wilson finishing those chances at Bournemouth.
You can excuse a slow start from Fraser as he hasn’t played much football since March. He refused to sign a new short-term contract at Bournemouth post-lockdown.
Hopefully, this assist can be the start of a run of form for the Scotland international.
