Jordan Henderson has stated that ‘it will be nice’ if Luis Suarez was given a warm reception from the Anfield crowd after Liverpool’s game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, as he told his pre-match press conference.
It was put to the Liverpool midfielder that Adam Lallana, whose Brighton side recorded a 2-2 draw at Anfield over the weekend, was given a great ovation by those inside the stadium after the weekend game.
Even though Lallana suffered a number of injuries during his time on Merseyside, he was still a favourite among the supporters.
The same could be said for Suarez, who was probably the greatest goalscorer to wear the Liverpool shirt in the modern era, although someone like Mo Salah will have something to say about that.
Nonetheless, ahead of Liverpool’s home Champions League tie against the La Liga champions, this is what Henderson was asked about Suarez:
“Adam Lallana got a fantastic reception on Saturday, asked the reporter. “Do you think it’s time for Luis to get likewise? Different circumstances when he was here last time. Can you imagine the crowd will show their appreciation?”
“Yeh, I think so,” said Henderson. “When Luis was here, he was phenomenal for a number of years. He was outstanding.
“I think the fans know that. I think that fans will appreciate what he did at this football club.
“I don’t think Luis will be too bothered, but of course, after the game, it will be nice, maybe not during the game, but after the game for him to get a nice reception from the crowd.”

Before Jurgen Klopp ended Liverpool’s 30-year wait to win an English League title, it was Suarez, under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers, who probably came the closest during that period.
It all ended in heartache for those involved, including Suarez, leaving for Barcelona, where he progressed his legacy even urther.
And eventually, Rodgers got the sack, which opened the door for Klopp to enter the club.
The rest is history and it seems as though more historical moments could be written by this team.
