Scott Parker’s time in Belgium continues to go from bad to worse.

The former Fulham boss’ Club Brugge side were on the wrong end of a 3-0 loss to relegation-threatened KV Oostende on Friday night and his future in Belgium is looking more and more uncertain.

This comes just 18 months after Parker was being considered by Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho, and Spurs must be so glad they didn’t go in that direction right now.

Parker himself admitted after the Oostende game that his job was at risk, stating that he can’t say whether or not he’ll be in charge for next week’s Champions League game against Benfica.

“Whether I am still a coach against Benfica? I can’t answer that,” Parker said.

“It went wrong everywhere.”

Parker said that his team lacked intensity during the game.

“Certainly in the first half”, said the Englishman. “We didn’t have enough guts on the ball either.”

Parker’s teams lacking intensity is nothing new. His Bournemouth and Fulham sides played incredibly negative football during his time in England, and while he secured two promotions with both sides, he did so in unconvincing fashion.

So, why were Spurs keen on him? Well, during his time at Fulham he got a lot of positive press due to the fact he spoke so well to the media, while he already has roots at Spurs having played for the north London club and coached the U18s at one point.

Parker’s stock has since fallen massively, and it’s fair to say that he won’t be getting a look-in when it comes to any of the Premier League’s big six in the coming months.

Parker took a risk when taking the Brugge job, and it’s not paid off.
