Wolverhampton Wanderers have stumbled on their quest for promotion from the Championship in recent weeks.
Ex-Wolves player Andy Thompson spoke exclusively to the Express & Star, and shared how last weekend’s defeat to Fulham will be really concerning for the club’s fans.
The Black Country outfit currently sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table, but their lead has been cut to just six points, with Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City side finding form at just the right time.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have been superb all season long, so it is hard to criticise them, but their return of two points from their last three games has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons, as far as the race for promotion is concerned.
Thompson, who made 376 league appearances for Wolves, highlighted the manner in which his former side lost to Fulham on Saturday as a major cause for concern, when speaking exclusively to the Express & Star:
“Everyone needs to stick together. Fulham was always going to be one of the hardest games left. It wasn’t a massive shock they lost, it was just the manner of the defeat that’s concerned people. For the first time this season they weren’t really ever in the game despite having a couple of chances. It’s the first main setback they’ve had and people will be asking if the bubble’s burst.”
Wolves have a great chance to get their season back on track with a home game against 18th placed Reading tomorrow, but if they fail to beat the Royals, the pressure really will begin to mount on Nuno’s men.
