West Ham United crashed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 2-0 away at League One side Wigan Athletic.
The Hammers edged past Shrewsbury Town in the last round after a replay, and were faced with another League One outfit as they travelled to take on Wigan.
After initially drawing 0-0 with Shrewsbury, West Ham couldn’t even manage that this time, losing 2-0 at the DW Stadium as Will Grigg pounced to score twice in a superb win for the Latics.
West Ham are now out of the competition, and fans have been particularly frustrated with left back Arthur Masuaku, after he was given a straight red card against Wigan.
Masuaku was given his marching orders for spitting at Wigan playmaker Nick Powell, in a frankly absurd moment which cost his side any chance of getting back into the game.
After the game, manager David Moyes was furious with the Frenchman, telling Sky Sports that Masuaku’s actions were ‘despicable’, adding that West Ham will reprimand him on top of the ban he will receive.
Now, Masuaku has taken to Twitter to offer an apology to West Ham fans, noting that he wants to win back the trust of Moyes, adding that it was totally uncharacteristic of him and he has learnt from his first ever red card.
