Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel, David Ornstein has shared what he’s been hearing about Jordan Henderson’s Liverpool future.

There have been a number of reports this week casting doubt on the future of the Liverpool captain after it was rumoured that talks regarding a new contract have hit a snag, and Ornstein has heard similar.

Interestingly, the journalist claims that Henderson’s contract dispute isn’t to do with money, nor has there been a bust-up behind the scenes, but he says that this is an issue that has been bubbling under the surface for a number of weeks.

What’s been said?

Ornstein shared an update on Henderson’s contract situation.

“It’s worth pointing out that these talks have been going on for some time really. Earlier in the summer and towards the end of last season ‘for weeks and weeks’ as it was described to us, and it’s hit a bit of an impasse. We don’t think it’s over money and we also don’t think there’s an acrimonious dispute here. We’re not trying to whip anything up, there’s been a diverse reaction to these stories, but we’re reporting accurately and in good faith, and we’re sourcing these things incredibly deeply, so we do have to consider the possibility that Jordan Henderson may leave,” Ornstein said.

What’s the problem?

If this isn’t an issue about money and there aren’t problems behind the scenes, then what’s the issue?

Henderson has been at Liverpool for a long time now, so it’s hard to imagine that his loyalty is an issue, so why hasn’t a new contract been sorted?

From the outside looking in, there isn’t a logical explanation, but we’re sure that everything will come to the fore sooner or later.

Fingers crossed Liverpool and Henderson can get this sorted in the coming weeks.
