Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has made an interesting comparison between Arsenal’s Dani Ceballos and Tomas Soucek.
Wright was commenting on Ceballos’ runs from deep against Leeds United as he put in an energetic display against the Whites, drawing a comparison to West Ham’s Czech international midfielder.
“It was beautiful the way Ceballos came through from deep, kind of like a Soucek kind of vibe, like all of a sudden he’s a pivot and then you see he’s in the box,” Wright said.
This is certainly an interesting comparison to make.
Physically, there may not be two players in the Premier League less alike that Ceballos and Soucek, but in terms of their style of play, they aren’t that dissimilar.

As Wright says, Ceballos’ late runs into the box were very Soucek-esque, and while he doesn’t have the physical stature or aerial ability of the Hammers star, his positioning is similar.
It’s certainly an interesting comparison to make, and it will be intriguing to see if Ceballos continues to add this element to his game as he may start scoring a lot more goals if his late runs into the box continue.
Soucek is one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the league, so this comparison is a massive compliment from Wright.
