Canberra United defender Nick Faust has told the Canberra Times that it was ‘awesome’ to spend time training with Celtic last month.

The Bhoys already have one Australian star in their ranks in Tom Rogic, whilst the likes of Mark Viduka, Jackson Irvine and Scott McDonald have all turned out for Celtic in years gone by.

It now seems that, despite Brendan Rodgers having a host of options at his disposal, he is looking to the transfer market for potential reinforcements, with another defender on his radar.

Injuries to Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic have left Celtic a little short at the back this season, and fans are keen to see a new centre back arrive in January – though Rodgers may have one eye on the future too.

Canberra United defender Nick Faust spent a two-week trial spell with Celtic last month, in the hope of following in Rogic’s footsteps by earning a move to Europe, and maybe more specifically, Celtic.

The 18-year-old – alongside fellow Aussie Leo Mazis – spent time with the Scottish giants in October, and they were even given the chance to take part in two training sessions with Celtic’s senior side.

It’s unclear whether Rodgers will keep Faust and Mazis in mind for the future, but defender Faust has described his experience with the Bhoys in an interview with the Canberra Times.

Faust admitted that it was ‘awesome’ to train alongside Rodgers’ stars, noting that the intensity of their training is a motivator for young players, and he added that he spoke to compatriot Rogic, who offered advice to both him and Mazis.

“Seeing the intensity of how they train definitely motivates you and we got to train with the first team a few times and then watch them play, it was awesome,” Faust said. “Everyone was talking about Tom over there and then we met up with him and talked about Canberra a bit, he was just happy to speak to somebody that didn’t have an accent. He was a really nice and just told us to keep working hard and it would great to follow his path and play at that level one day,” he added.
