Charlie Austin has told talkSPORT that ‘it was a shock’ when West Ham opted against bringing in another striker when they sold Sebastian Haller in January.

Whilst things weren’t going well for Haller at West Ham, it did come out of the blue when those in the East London boardroom informed their struggling striker that he was swapping the Claret & Blue for the Red & White of Ajax.

Understandably, the West Ham supporters thought a striker would come in, but he didn’t to the dismay and anger of many.

QPR hitman, Austin, who was involved in a well-documented transfer saga with the Hammers many years ago, expressed his surprise at no back-up coming in for Michail Antonio.

“West Ham showed (against Manchester United) that they are crying out for another striker,” said Austin.

“I know they got rid of Haller but to not bring anyone in, it was a shock.

“But David Moyes did say that he wasn’t going to rush that situation by bringing anyone in, so you can see what they are going to do in the summer.”

One thing that won’t change is the West Ham supporters’ lack of trust in those running the club.

If there is one thing they haven’t been able to get right during their tenure then it’s their ability, or even inability, to purchase a striker worthy of putting on the colours of West Ham.

But one man West Ham fans can put their trust in is Moyes himself, who has recruited some absolute gems during his second stint, most notably the thriving number six goal machine, Tomas Soucek.
