Taiwo Awoniyi has told BBC Sport that he would love to be a part of Liverpool’s success, but was glad to be out on loan this season.
Awoniyi didn’t receive a medal, despite Liverpool winning the Premier League title.
But the striker, who spent last season with Mainz in the Bundesliga, claims that he actually preferred being away from Anfield last season.
“It would definitely be great to be a part of the success,” he admitted.
“But honestly, I would rather be where I am playing more and in a team that I can earn the medal of my own that I honestly worked for.
“It sounds a bit odd but that is the truth. To be compensated for not making any contribution is not fair.”
Awoniyi’s chances of breaking back into Liverpool’s squad next season appear limited.

The Nigerian forward is struggling to earn a work permit, and the BBC say that he is ‘almost certain’ to head out on loan again.
Awoniyi only scored one league goal for Mainz last term, and if he is to have any chance of breaking into Liverpool’s team if the future he will surely have to be more prolific on his next move.
Awoniyi actually joined Liverpool in 2015, but he has never made an appearance for the Reds, and has already been sent out on six loan spells since joining.
