Speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle has shared what he knows about Kingsley Coman’s links to Liverpool.
It has been reported that the French winger is a transfer target for Liverpool, but Doyle isn’t convinced that the Reds are actively pursuing a move for the Bayern Munich man.
What’s been said?
Unfortunately, it seems as though the reports linking Liverpool with Coman aren’t accurate, with Doyle claiming that it’s a case of the player’s agent and the selling club trying to drum up interest rather than anything concrete.
“As far as I’m aware, I think with Coman it’s one of these ones where it’s possibly a player that Liverpool are aware of, but it seems as though the rumours are coming more from his end, whether it’s his representative or Bayern Munich trying to drum up some interest to get a fee for him if he does decide he wants to leave, it seems to be more that than anything else,” Doyle said.
“With Liverpool whether or not they bring in a forward depends on whether or not they sell some forwards, and that’s not a sell-to-buy initiative, that’s purely based on numbers.”

Lucky escape
It seems as though Liverpool signing Coman isn’t all that likely this summer, and while some Liverpool fans won’t be happy about that, there’s reason to believe they’ve had a lucky escape.
Coman may have won league titles everywhere he’s played and scored a winner in a Champions League final, but it’s hard to believe that he’s bring as much to the Liverpool squad as Sadio Mane down the left.
With Liverpool playing a system where the wingers are the primary goalscoring threats, signing someone whose best-ever goal haul in a season is 10 doesn’t make too much sense.
The Reds would be better off going for another player.
