Speaking on the Handbrake Off podcast, Lee Dixon has reluctantly admitted how much he admires this current Tottenham team’s pragmatism and ability to adjust their game to overcome their opponents.

The Arsenal legend was understandably unhappy to give the Gunners’ biggest rivals any sort of praise, and as much as it hurt him to do it, he couldn’t help but admire Tottenham’s recent results.

“What really got to me the other night watching the game was a real, we know we’re playing Tottenham, but there was a real lack of understanding of the team we’re playing against,” Dixon said.

“We all know how Tottenham play, we all know what to expect of them. We’ve all seen them in the past two or three weeks, it pains me to say, sort of you know, a masterclass in ‘this is the team we’re playing against, this is how we’re going to play, our best Mourinho opportunity to get a result is to play like this’.”

“They play like that and then win the game or draw and seven points from the last three games from their point of view ticks all the boxes.”

The fact that Dixon, a man who has understandably been heavily-biased against Spurs throughout his punditry career, is praising Tottenham, shows just how good they have been lately.

Dixon won’t have been happy to admit that he thinks this Spurs team have been putting on a masterclass in recent weeks, but there’s simply no other way to describe their recent showings.

There was certainly a time when Spurs would have picked up zero points from games against Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal, but this current Tottenham outfit are able to pick up convincing wins against some of the Premier League’s top sides.

This sort of endorsement from an Arsenal legend just goes to show that Spurs are the real deal this season.
