Simon Jordan has stated that he sees no issues with Tottenham duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero featuring for their side against Newcastle next Sunday, as he told talkSPORT (06/10/21 at 10:40 am).
The former Crystal Palace owner thinks if the Spurs duo, who are on international duty with Argentina, aren’t able to feature upon their return then it’s because they haven’t been vaccinated.
South American players have been able to travel for international duty this week, despite being prevented to do so last time.
Although, Lo Celso and Romero decided to take matters into their own hands and travel anyway, which caused Argentina’s clash with Brazil to be called off ten minutes into the game after health officials entered the pitch.
But now it seems as though the duo will miss the trip to Newcastle, with Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni not providing them exemption to miss Friday mornings clash against Peru, as reported by the Athletic.
The topic was discussed by former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan and how he feels they should still be able to play at St James’ Park.
“If Spurs players are back in the UK on Thursday, then they can plausibly play on the Sunday,” said Jordan. “They don’t need to have their game delayed. They don’t need to have any dispensation from the teams abroad.
“It must be to do with these players aren’t vaccinated because if they aren’t vaccinated then they can’t play.
“If they are available to fly in on the Friday, then we are asking a high-level footballer, who hasn’t lost touch with reality (talking to co-host Trevor Sinclair). Can you play? Yes you can.
“So, by definition these boys can play. There must be another reason then.”
What’s worse is that there is still another international break to come before the end of the year.
But it won’t end there because there is also a small matter of the Africa Cup on Nations in January
Then there is next season, and the World Cup in Qatar, which is set to start in November and will no doubt cause havoc to the footballing calendar.
But then again, it’s all about the money in modern football and not the supporters.
