‘It might be Arsenal’: Peter Schmeichel is certain what Liverpool won’t be doing this season

Peter Schmeichel is pretty confident that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool won’t challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

The legendary goalkeeper feels that if any team has a chance of stopping the all-dominant Manchester City, then it’s Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, as he told Premier League Productions (16/09/23 at 8:40 pm).

It is indeed the Treble-winners who are sitting top of the tree in English football after their 100% start, whilst Liverpool and Arsenal are closely behind.

But, of course, everyone knows how Manchester City can steam forward like a train because it won’t be too long before they are ten games in and they are yet to drop points.

That 90+ points mark is what Pep Guardiola and his players usually hit, and as Liverpool and Arsenal know too well, only one or two defeats over the course of the season are accepted, or else, you end the season empty-handed.

That’s seemingly why Peter Schmeichel isn’t giving Liverpool a chance to challenge the current champions, even after their win over Wolves on Saturday.

Can Liverpool and Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title?

“I don’t think they can,” said Schmeichel. “If there is a team, then it might be Arsenal, but that’s a big ‘might’.

“I don’t think anyone can stay with Manchester City. We are just looking at that line-up (Man City’s). You look at their back four. I mean, you have to compete with that. It’s Walker, Dias, Akanji and Gvardiol. How can you compete with that?

“You can’t match it and Liverpool, for sure, can’t match it. I think they are very vulnerable at the back.”

Manchester City chasing four titles in a row

No team, in the history of English football, has won four titles in a row, as Manchester City have an ample chance to, once again, write their names into the history books.

Forget about complacency. The current champions are showing zero signs of that.

And if Man City surge into a big lead, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if the title race is over by the time it’s February.
