The Rangers striker is still awaiting his chance under the Ibrox manager, Steven Gerrard.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Motherwell at Ibrox Stadium on November 11, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard may be yet to use Andrew Dallas in a first team game, but the Rangers boss has already had a positive impact on the promising Ibrox striker.

Dallas has scored 14 goals in 13 games below senior level this season, prompting some Rangers fans to demand a call-up for the home-grown 19-year-old.

But despite having so far failed to answer those cries, Gerrard, it seems, is aware of Dallas’s talent.

Discussing the Rangers manager’s influence on his career, he told the Glasgow Evening Times: “You could see right from day one that he got a lot of backing and the fans were buzzing and the players were buzzing.

“You could feel it around the place and it has really taken off now.

“I have spoken to him a couple of times on the training pitch but I remember when we had a closed door friendly at the Hummel Training Centre.

“It was 1-1 against Morton and the gaffer was standing at the side of the pitch watching. He shouted ‘Andy, there is a winner in this for you, there is a winner in this’.

“Right enough, ten minutes later and with about ten minutes to go, I scored and we won 2-1. That meant a lot to me that day.”

Rangers Glasgow's Glenn Middleton celebrates scoring in the 2018

A former youth coach at Liverpool, Gerrard has already shown a willingness to look below the Rangers first team when in need of new players, with Glenn Middleton the biggest beneficiary of that thus far.

As well as the Scotland Under-21 international, Stephen Kelly and Serge Atakayi have also made their debuts this season, under the ex England midfielder.

And given his recent form, Dallas could be next in Gerrard’s sights.
